What Do People Really Mean When They Say… Jesus: Hope for Humanity

Jesus: Hope for Humanity That was the hand-printed sign that greeted me as I pulled into the Perkins Diner in Winter Park. I remember wholeheartedly feeling that way from my teens and into my thirties. It was the mid-70s, Vietnam was winding down, Nixon was ousted in disgrace and the Man from Plains, Georgia was in the White House. As a teen I had no idea what I was talking about and imagined that Jesus would be coming back and the End of the World would happen soon. I had no concept of a Future and couldn’t imagine life in … Continue reading What Do People Really Mean When They Say… Jesus: Hope for Humanity

What Do People Really Mean When They Say… “Everything Happens for a Reason…”

The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer & The Community of Friends

The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer Turns out that famous recording artists are people with all the flaws, failings and feelings of everyone else you’ve ever known. As much as that should be a “duh,” I was pretty disappointed after Melissa Etheridge’s jilted partner aired dirty laundry about how Etheridge saved her emotions for her songs. That disclosure, true or not, soured my appreciation of her art. I became aware of Amanda Palmer through her TED talk and the enthusiasm of some of my Alt friends. What I first loved about her was her message of the importance of … Continue reading The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer & The Community of Friends

IBF 18: Accidental Miracles of History – A Review of Reza Aslan’s “Zealot”

Lately I’ve been reading books analyzing Religion and New Testament Christianity in particular; actually that’s nothing new for me. If I’m not indulging in some sci-fi than I’m usually reading the latest from several writers, such as Bart Ehrman or … Continue reading IBF 18: Accidental Miracles of History – A Review of Reza Aslan’s “Zealot”

JBB’s Final Thoughts Episode 3: Easter & Even More Spiritual Self-Examinations (IBF 17)

JBB’s Final Thoughts Episode 3: Easter & Even More Spiritual Self-Examinations (IBF 17). Easter-time religious & other self-examinations goes way back for me… and it’s a bit too simplistic to brush it all off as delusional. As usual, this story began … Continue reading JBB’s Final Thoughts Episode 3: Easter & Even More Spiritual Self-Examinations (IBF 17)
