What Do People Really Mean When They Say… “Everything Happens for a Reason…”

Everything happens for a reason, I’ve pretty much lived my whole life believing that to be true. Alas, one generally doesn’t think about such things or hear those words except when things have gone horribly wrong and one is trying to figure out where it all went to hell. It’s probably part of my optimistic American upbringing to respond to difficulty, set-backs and failure with the notion that there’s something to be learned from said difficulty, set-backs and failure such that I entertain the belief that “I’ll do better next time.” That would seem to be the American Ideal, to … Continue reading What Do People Really Mean When They Say… “Everything Happens for a Reason…”

What Do People Really Mean When They Say… “We Believe that Children Are Our Future?”

Who, in their right mind, is going to say, “To hell with the kids, let them fend for themselves, who need ’em.” Even those who aren’t comfortable around little ones or who have no desire to have any children of their own are likely to have a soft spot for a precious niece or nephew or adorable neighborhood urchin. Et tu, WordPress?

I decided to go to the local WordPress holiday party. Nice people, great snacks and beer, love the Exchange Building where it was hosted. Most of the attendees of these events are either developers or run WordPress related-businesses. I’m neither. I’m a writer who inconsistently blogs. As if I wasn’t feeling a little odd-man-out enough a fellow said hi, asked me what I do and then pointed out that the computer on my shirt was out of date. Dammit if he wasn’t spot on. I’ve been wearing these work shirts forever… well, at least going back to the days of … Continue reading Et tu, WordPress?
